Business Intelligence and NHS Information Governance
Many trusts, SHAs and other organisations need better ways to collate, interpret and share information about their teams, departments and organisation as a whole, to create Business Intelligence, an essential part of NHS Information Governance.
We believe that you need ways to rapidly use the intelligence you already have, to improve it, to share it broadly and to work together to act on the insights good BI provides. That’s what our Rapid BI approach delivers.
Rapid BI addresses the needs of trusts through 4 key technologies:
- SharePoint acts as the portal, providing dashboards and personalised pages availabile across your organsiation, giving staff information in the way they need it and tools for working toegther to add insights and act on them. It also includes a number of basic key performance indicator tools as well as the ability to display data and charts through Excel Services1, PerformancePoint1, SSRS and external sources and tools
- SQL Reporting Services (SSRS) provides a powerful set of tools for creating reports from complex data sets, and can present them in Reports Library
- Microsoft PerformancePoint (provided with Microsoft SharePoint1) offers high order data analysis and visualisation tools together with visually rich dashboards and scorecards with drill down and advanced analysis for specific NHS information governance
- Excel 2010 provides rapid development of reports, hands on analysis, external data ingest and sophisticated ‘on the fly’ analytics. It is able to natively handle large data sets and, through PowerPivot, can be used as an enterprise BI tool
Using Rapid BI for intuitive NHS Information Governance
SharePoint not only acts as the host portal for bringing together multiple BI tools, including non-Microsoft ones, in a single place (called Performance Centre in our award winning Solution Accelerator) via the browser, but also provides collaboration tools, related information sources plus a process for creating and managing the reports. Libraries present reports to users and allow existing reports to be updated, reviewed, version controlled and more. Further SharePoint tools allow teams to work together on findings.
We don’t believe a ‘Big Bang’ BI approach, which seeks to replace all your current processes and reports with a single tool is wise or even achievable. We advise clients to invest in sophisticated tools for the sophisticated needs, but to enhance the existing reporting approach in parallel. This truly is Rapid BI.
If your trust needs some element of business intelligence, whether at a whole trust NHS Information Governance level or for discrete departments or directorates and either has or is thinking about using SharePoint then we would be delighted to show you what can be achieved. We promise you’ll be impressed.
Cloud2 are one of the country’s leading partners for SharePoint based solutions and have worked closely with Microsoft / CFH to support deployment of the CUI components. We can offer advice and information, BI enhancements to existing SharePoint platforms through to extensive, organisation-wide intranets including BI. Since the Scorecard Enabler is free, BI projects need not be expensive and complex to embark on; project delivery can be a matter of a week or two.
1 Note that use of these generally requires purchase or ECALs.
