Many trusts have a need to provide access to part of their SharePoint platform for users who aren’t part of their core network and so do not have Active Directory accounts.
Although SharePoint can work with many types of directory beyond AD, it does not have a solution for these users.
To address this Cloud2 have developed SEA (SharePoint External Access).
SEA provides a SQL based user directory for authentication combined with a secure forms-based log-in screen. The log in screen can be further customised to present terms and conditions of use, branding etc. SEA also includes self serv ice tools that allow users to request access and to manage their passwords etc.
SEA is also very useful where proxy servers currently block the normal authentication route or where the client device (including many smartphones) doesn’t support Windows Authentication.
SEA is secure and runs over the N3 network and COINS. No software needs to be installed on the end users’ computers. It is widely in use in several NHS trusts.
